Spring Fever

The flowers you spot along the road. The signs of springs you see in early March. The sun shining on your skin. Y'all, spring is finally here. I could not be more ecstatic! I can finally bring in my pastel colors into my wardrobe once again. The most wonderful time of the year has arrived (besides Christmas), and I hope all of you break out the vacuums, organize the closets, shop the stores, and enjoy the dainty little things today.

The Academy Awards

Basically my all time favorite in the history of ever. I sat through these prestigious awards for its entirety  seeing every win, loss, slip, hit, and miss to be spotted. Here are my favorite dresses of the night.

1. Jennifer Lawrence- The dress of the night, and, quite frankly, for a great reason. This woman looked STUNNING. She was radiant in this Dior Haute Couture, even when she slipped. I am typically not a fan of the mermaid to cupcake styling of formals, but this updated, chic version had me head over heels.
2. Amanda Seyfried- Another hot momma of the evening. The light lilac was darling for her skin tone, and her Vanity Fair after show attire showed just how ready she was to make a statement. Amanda Seyfried, you looked amazing. She was truly a stand out.
3. Reese Witherspoon- The bold blue was wise choice for Mrs. Witherspoon. The fantastic fit of the dress proved that she was one to watch for the evening.
4. Kerry Washington- I adore this dress. Not only is it delicate, feminine, and flirty, it has enough wow-factor without over-doing the detail. Plus, the little bow was precious. If I could change one thing, I would do something with the hair.
5. Jessica Chastain- When asked about her style inspiration for the evening, Jessica said that she looked very "Happy Birthday, Mr. President". And girl, you rocked it. The simplistic A-line with tiny details and bold lip made its way to the top of my list.
6. Amy Addams- The pale grey ball gown. I am in love. The hair, the make-up, the flowiness. I was pleasantly surprised by this from Amy. She looked like a true starlet. Well done.
7. Halle Berry- Wow. That was my reaction to Halle's dress. The metallic stripping and sleek look was phenomenal  And the pixie cut looked incredible. One of the best of the night by far.
8. Jennifer Aniston- My gosh, she's done it again. That dress. Oh my goodness. I was in love. It was simple, sure, but the red was vibrant and she looked like a hot princess. If there was a Disney movie with Jen's dress, it would be called "Little Red Hot Dress".

Honorable Mentions:
Anne Hathaway (her make-up, Oscar, and fit of the dress was perfect, but it was the actual dress I disliked)
Emma Roberts (something was off...)

Bright Light

I love to inspire people, so when given the opportunity, I seize it. I don't know what religious affiliation each of you are, but something about putting on a retreat for young people lifts my spirits. It's seeing them open up and discuss their problems. It's the laughs, smiles, vulnerability, and tears that get me going. It means I am reaching into their hearts and finding a hidden secret. I had the privilege of attending one today, and it has shown me how anyone can be an inspiration. I only hope that all of you can be an inspiration to others in your community.

Shockwave

Happy Monday everyone! Many of us have heard news before that hits us to our core. Good or bad, we take the news to an unusually high emotional level. Information like this can make or break us. But, either way the events turn, we can benefit and become better people. We can learn. We can grow. We can discover ourselves and the world around us. So, even if the shockwave is painful or pleasant, we can be the best of ourselves in the midst of the action, as well as the aftermath.

Breathe

The week is finally coming to a close. After this long week, I can only think of one thing to do: breathe. I'm constantly non-stop during the work week, and I continue to be busy during the weekend. So, in an effort to relax, I'm doing very little this weekend. I need to sleep, to go for a walk, tan a bit, go to the gym, explore nature, and read for fun. I've been waiting for a weekend of pure relaxation. I hope you set aside a weekend of breathing. Have a great weekend.

Mane

I'm typically one to stay on a routine. I'm a messy person, but I like my routine. So when I started letting my hair grow long, I developed a hair care routine that has stuck throughout the years. A few changes here and there (I'm about to switch to devacurl shampoo (not really shampoo) and conditioner). Nonetheless, though, a routine.

1) herbal essence shampoo and conditioner-blue coconut.
2) Moroccan oil hair treatment ***invest in this product****
3) Dove hair oil

No, I rarely use any sort of heat to my hair. I don't want any unnecessary damage. Also, here is a hair treatment I use about once a month to repair any split ends.

With wet hair, mix one egg yolk with tree tbsp of olive oil and one tbsp of honey . Massage mask in hair and put shower cap on. Leave in for 30 minutes. Wash out with mild soap.

NYFW 2013

The glamour, the runway, the fashions, the designers-everyone knows what has happened these past weeks. If you live under a rock, then NYFW has happened. The trends have been set since February 6-14, and let me tell you, they can easily be here to stay. Bringing back military with a feminine twist has been a trend for the past two years now, and it has maintained its spot on the runway. Tiny, delicate embellishments, as well as sheer noir, hit the runways by storm. Also, this year's pantone color set has made its appearance at the show. As we all know, some design have better stayed on the runway, such as under eye shadow, but make up tips such as a blank eye-bold lip look and the new and improved heavy brow can surely used in daily life. With the celebrities fierce, the styles new, and the trends set, we have a wrap of NYFW 2013.

In the Blink of an Eye

Life doesn't change its course for anyone. We walk, talk, move, speak, run, scream, fight, love, believe, wander like any other day. We go on with our lives with oblivion to what may happen. And then it happens. Recently, a young teen in my community died. I am not going to go into any of the details, but for someone like myself hearing of someone younger that you know has died can send a shock wave through you. I have not had many personal experiences with death. However, I have had many experiences with beauty and good things coming from bad things. This tragedy has brought broken people, people with little similarities  together. This tragedy has taught that love can conquer all, just as the respectable teen taught. The community has come together to give us, an untainted environment, a wake up call. What I'm trying to say is is that this can be related to any horrible event. There are lessons to be learned through life's travesties. We just have to recognize them through our pain in suffering. And how will we get through it all? Love. I'm not trying to be some peace, love, happiness hipee that's high on life and is completely naive to any sort of bad. What I am, though, is a strong believer that your loved ones and other things that you love will be your rock in times of trouble. Family, friends, co-workers, even the strangers that bring a smile to your face can uplift your spirits. Hobbies, beloved jobs, pets-all of those will keep your perspective clear. Life can change in the blink of an eye-make sure you have an unchanging foundation to keep yourself from falling apart.

Snow

I'm baaaack, my lovelies! This whole week off I gathered lots and lots of information to enlighten all of you! So as you all know, I was away at Beaver Creek, Colorado with the family for a first time ever ski trip. Let me tell you, what you see on T.V. about the Olympic skiers just flying down the slopes like no one's business-not like that. Not like that AT ALL. First off, my ski boot (mind you, 20 lbs per boot) bruised my shins to the point that I could not walk or apply pressure of any sort to any area below my knees. So, skiing for four days was a blast with excruciating pain. But, I must say, that was the worst of the trip. Be proud everyone, I mastered the bunny slopes in four days. The scenery, though, was what I loved the most. I am coming from humid, sweaty, flat land with a 70 degree February with an occasional 60. I fly up to Colorado, and my heart literally swells with beauty. I see snow (y'all, snow does not exist in Louisiana like it does in Colorado. I fan-girled over frozen water.) I see mountains. I see my breath. And I see the occasional nose bleed due to the thin air and my weak nose. But let me tell you, the atmosphere was wonderful! I could just look out at the mountains and just let my mind wonder. I was astonished by the beauty around me, and I could not have been more grateful. I bundled in every single piece of clothing I had (3 layers on, everyday. If you guys have every seen Joey from F.R.I.E.N.D.S with all of Chandler's clothes on, that was me.) The warmest temperature was a solid 12, with the coldest being a -2. I am the proud survivor of two snowstorm, one of which I motor skiied through on top of on of the highest mountains in the area. I highly suggest engaging in such activity for a ride on the wild side, but if you do so, make sure you cover your mouth so you don't end up like Ronald McDonald (yes, I look like Ronald McDonald :[ ) I also suggest that if you do go skiing ever, make sure you look feminine and girl-like (I was told that I was a boy by a chair lift guy-needless to say, I was offended). All in all, the trip was fabulous, and I am so happy I had the opportunity to go. Seeing the world from a different perspective opened my eyes to the beauty this world has. I hope all of you have a happy Monday.

Slopes

Sunday I leave for a week to go skiing in Beaver Creak, Colorado. Considering this is the first time I have ever skied, I'm sure I will be bruised from head to toe. Due to the limited access to the Internet I will have, I am taking the week off from the blog :( . If I do have the chance, I will most definitely write, filling you in on every bruise I receive. However, expect pictures and details in the next two weeks. Happy Mardi Gras!

Beyonce with a Side of Suberbowl

So, I couldn't tell you guys all that went down at the Superbowl, except maybe the Beyonce performance and the lights going out.  The football game may have been three hours away, but I really could care less. However, Beyonce. All hail the queen. I mean, COME ON. She was incredible. When I'm her age, I only hope to bend and snap as well as she can. By the time Destiny's Child came on, I was freaking out. So good. Just so, so good. Just thinking about it is making my Monday better. If you are having a bad Monday, think of Beyonce. WWBD? Happy Monday!
And congrats to my Sparkler friends, they were awesome :]

Don't you love driving before the sunrise and see the brilliant colors shine above you once 7 am hits? We had a great one today, huh? I just looked outside and could count my blessings. It's the dainty little things that can brighten a Friday. Have a great weekend. Good luck my sparkler friends, I love y'all.
