I Took The One Less Traveled By

Robert Frost's infamous "The Road Not Taken" has been inspiring people for ages. Written in 1920, this poem explains a struggle every human must face-the choosing of two paths. The path most traveled by is, of course, the most popular choice. This type of life can lead to emptiness or even wanting more from life. Both easily have happiness, but one will make "all the difference."

We're Just Ordinary People

Take it slow, oh...okay well I'm actually talking about what separates the ordinary from the extraordinary. This separation only exists in objects, materials-not in people. Sure, not all of us live the celebrity life, our names in 36 font across the page about that time we had McDonald's for dinner. We're not on People's magazine for world's most beautiful. I assure you we're not all on Vogue for the September spread, becoming the envy of all women everywhere. We all have the potential to do these things, but these potential circumstances do not define our future. In fact, it probably will never happen. My question is why do we base our greatness and beauty on such materialistic things as fame, appearance, and money? What is so great about these things?

I'll tell you something.

There's nothing great, they are just materials that help women get by.

Here's another thing: we don't need any of this. Beauty comes from within, not photo-shopped in. Fame should be humbling, not consuming. Money should be a necessity, not an excess. That's where our problem is located, everything we want is unattainable, unreachable to us. Once we recognize that, everything will fall into place.

Last First

Have you ever looked inside of a broken clock, where the gears are stuck and the needles are still? Have you ever moved the still needles of the clock by yourself? This is exactly how I feel about my last year in high school: every event, every story, every year, the needles were manually turned, and suddenly, the clock struck twelve. To start off the senior activities, Big Sis Lil Sis took place, even a portion of it at my own house. My precious little was such a great sport, and I can't think of anyone I'd rather have spent the time with. My actual blood sister was a little sis in the event, and I'm so happy to have shared this experience with her.
Another event that has recently taken place was my last first day in high school. With all of the nostalgia in the air, it was hard to grasp that all of this was true. With silly bows and goofy smiles, it was a new excitement of being the top dogs of the school that made it all count. I can't wait to spend this final year with all of my friends (and maybe learn a thing or two).
